John McManus is an anthropologist and writer based in Berlin, Germany
About me
I am a social anthropologist and writer, with a focus on migration and multiculturalism. I’ve spent most of the past decade in Turkey and the Middle East. Since 2023, i’m based in Berlin, working on an EU-funded fellowship seeking to understand divisions and foster dialogue among Berlin’s Turkish speaking communities.
On top of my academic work, I produce books aimed at a general readership and write regularly for international news outlets. My latest book, Inside Qatar: Stories From One of the Richest Nations on Earth, was shortlisted for the 2023 Orwell Prize for Political Writing.
